Fisherman Dies in Channel Collision

One fisherman died after another fishing boat rear-ended his boat last month, throwing him into the Cal-Sag Channel in Illinois, reports say.

The Orland Park man, whose name was not released, drowned when the second boat swerved to avoid a log and hit his fishing boat, which was not moving at the time, Oddly, the fisherman thrown into the water could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket, reports say.

Identified only as a 41-year-old man from Orland Park, emergency Services responders used helicopters with an infrared cameras along with divers with sonar to find the man, who was eventually recovered, but was deceased.

Illinois officials are investigating the incident and will determine if there will be any penalties or suits levied against the colliding boat, reports say.
