Witnesses say a green Ford Explorer with two males inside was driving southbound on State Highway 288 when, for unknown reasons, the Explorer drove off the road just before the MacGregor overpass.
The Explorer went through a guardrail over Braes Bayou and landed on a concrete embankment on the opposite side of the bayou. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side. One male died inside the vehicle. The second male, claiming to be the passenger, exited the vehicle and was taken to the hospital.
The male victim, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A second male, also in his 30s, suffered head trauma and cuts and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition. Houston police are still investigating the accident.
