Impaired Driver Hits Two Pedestrians; Kills One

|

Police reports say Brenda Gail Johnson, 49, faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter for her role in the death of a pedestrian, Theodore Jones, 31, of Houston. A second pedestrian, Mr. Jones' son, Seth Jones, 7 months, was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in stable condition with a possible broken arm.

A group of citizens flagged down a Houston patrol officer to let him know that Johnson was driving a white Chrysler 300 westbound on West Little York in an erratic manner. After locating the car, the officer saw it swerve off the roadway at 3100 West Little York and strike two pedestrians at a bus stop. One of the pedestrians was in a baby stroller.

After hitting the victims, Johnson continued driving westbound, still weaving in and out of traffic. When the officer pursued Johnson and turned on his lights, she fled in the car, eventually leaving the roadway and flipping over onto the shoulder of the road, striking a Honda Accord whose driver was not injured. Johnson was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in stable condition, released, and transported to jail.

Johnson was deemed intoxicated, possibly on prescription drugs. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and has accepted a charge of intoxication manslaughter in this case.
