Man Charged for Vehicular Manslaughter

|

Thomas M. Roberts, 50, of Newark, CA has reportedly been charged on two counts of second-degree murder, drunken driving and drug charges that resulted in the death of two.

The accidents that caused the deaths were reported to have started last month on Interstate 505 near Winters when Roberts struck the median while headed southbound. As he hit the median, he lost control of the vehicle and hit a bridge abutment guardrail. The car then spun into the traffic and was hit from behind by another car. When the two cars came to rest, a third car plowed into them.

At the same time, motorcyclist, Oscar Alfaro, 48, of Antioch, CA, attempted to avoid the crash by moving to the shoulder. He evidently skidded on the shoulder and also hit the bridge abutment. He was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the creek, reports say. He died at the scene.

In addition, a baby reported as Roberts' 4-month-old grandson, Daniel Roberts, died from his injuries. Roberts, who only suffered minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, reports say.
