Electrical shock is being investigated as a factor in the drowning of a Bridgeport teenager at Stonewall Jackson Lake, West Virginia, reports say.
Michael Cunningham, 15, was pulled from Stonewall Lake last month after he and three other youths were swimming behind a boat docked at the lake's marina. The victim had reportedly left the water and was standing on the back of the boat watching the other two swim, reports say.
The other two swimmers approached the ladder, with the victim making contact with the ladder, suffering a possible electric shock. He reportedly dropped into the water and disappeared. One of the other youths apparently also suffered an electrical shock but managed to exit the water. That youth was treated and released at a hospital.
Bad visibility and cold water temperatures hampered search efforts. Dive teams found the body at a depth of 34 feet nearly five hours later, he said. Reports also say that the likely source of the shock has been identified, but have not yet released the confirmed cause of death.
