A woman who was struck by an allegedly drunk driver while walking on the sidewalk is expected to survive an accident that could have been fatal, reports say.
Reports say 50-year-old Brian Campbell is accused of hitting Megan Smith in Carlsbad, Ca after too many alcoholic beverages. The man, who is currently in police custody, allegedly struck the pedestrian in Carlsbad while driving drunk, departed the scene, and crashed his pickup truck while trying to flee from police.
Campbell hit Smith. When officers approached, the driver sped off, reports say. He eluded police for a brief time but was eventually found caught in a driveway, trapped inside his pickup. He was assisted by firefighters and taken to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment for injuries sustained in the accident, reports say. He was arrested at the Vista jail on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence, Hit And Run With Injury and Driving on a Suspended License. He was also apparently driving under the influence while on probation for DUI as well as driving under the influence with prior DUI convictions. Ms. Smith suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, according to reports.
