When a convenience store gasoline pump caught fire after being hit by a pickup truck and exploded recently, it killed one woman and injured at least one other person
The woman, reported as 18-year-old Whitney Hendrickson of Colorado Springs, died as she was pumping gas when the fire erupted. She reportedly became trapped between the pump and a minivan.
An SUV driver, who reportedly caused the pickup to crash in the first place, was treated at Memorial Hospital for bruises. The woman, reported as 29-year-old Kelli Renae McKay of Colorado Springs, was cited for suspicion of careless driving involving a death, a misdemeanor. A passenger in the minivan was unharmed as was the driver of the pickup. Several witness reportedly tried to save the young woman, but the heat was too intense.
