A South Texas man who was Tasered in June has now been named the victim of a homicide caused by an enlarged heart, drug intoxication and three jolts from the Taser, reports after a three-month probe say.
A Waller County grand jury reportedly cleared the officer who fired the Taser, but an autopsy evidently found that Houston had a high concentration of PCP in his system. The man's family believes the Taser was an unnecessarily dangerous weapon to use for restraining a person accused of a minor offense.
Reports say the officer fired the Taser after the man resisted arrested for trespassing and fled down a sidewalk. The jolt incapacitated him, but moments later the suspect seemed to threaten the officer, who sent another jolt. The suspect appeared to gasp for breath, and CPR was administered by an officer and EMS employees. He later died after being taken to a nearby hospital, said reports.
