Texas Natural Gas Line Explosion Kills One, Injures Seven

|

A huge explosion in rural Johnson County, about an hour southwest of Dallas, TX, killed one worker and injured seven others last month, reports say.

The blast, which involved a massive explosion and enormous fireball that went several hundred feet into the air, occurred when a utility worker accidentally hit a large natural gas line near Cleburne, reports say. The identity of the deceased worker was not released.

The worker, who was reportedly riding in a truck, was drilling holes for utility poles when the violent explosion occurred. The worker, whose co-workers lost sight of him due to the dense smoke, was finally located several hours after the explosion a good distance from the explosion. He was dead when they found him.

The blast was reportedly so violent that the truck in which the deceased worker rode was upside down and the 2,000-pound drilling component was ripped completely off the vehicle and lying 250 feet away.

The workers were subcontractors hired by Waco-based Brazos Electric Cooperative. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the natural gas line explosion.
