Three Killed in Mysterious Crash

|

New Jersey investigators are attempting to determine why a New Jersey youth and two friends died when they drove a car at high speed into an elementary school building. Those killed in the crash were Matthew Budesa, the driver, 20, of Pine Beach, NJ; Kimberly Van Gorden, 20, of Beachwood, NJ; and Matthew Witzgall, 21, of Toms River, NJ, one was the son of a longtime borough councilman.

The crash occurred early this month when somewhere between 4 and 4:30 a.m. the car smashed into the Pine Beach Elementary School. An administrator discovered the wreck about 2 hours later.

The Hyundai was traveling at such a high speed that it hit the side of the school's building hard enough to knock a 6-foot-square hole in the wall. Reports say that officials are still unsure whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, although some reports in the press say there was evidence of drugs in the car.

Police have said there were no skid marks found at the scene, and none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts. Autopsy results on all three of the victims showed they died of multiple traumatic injuries, reports say.
