Authorities Evacuate Cruise Liner After Suspicious Liquid Found

|

Reports say hundreds of people were evacuated from a Port Everglades cruise terminal after a customs agent stopped a man with a suspicious liquid that reports say caused the agent to become ill.

The man was initially held on a charge of marijuana possession since he was also found with that drug in his possession.

The Broward Sheriff's Office along with US Customs was checking passengers in an attempt to find subjects of arrest warrants. As passengers disembarked from a cruise ship about 10:30 a.m. at Terminal 4 from a Port Everglades five-night cruise, the officer found the suspicious liquid.

Reports say approximately 300 individuals, identified only as crew and passengers, were in the terminal during the incident and were evacuated. Passengers who were still on the ship were required to remain aboard while hazardous materials crews investigated. The terminal was reopened about three hours after the incident. There was no word on when and how the Customs agent became ill.
