Boy Drowns in Texas City Dike Beach Accident

|

A five-year-old Houston boy drowned after falling from an inflatable float yesterday in the same area in which three others drowned just nine months earlier.

The boy, whose name has not yet been released, was under the water for about five minutes, reports said. Reports varied as to whether or not the child had fallen off while others paddled it, or whether it had overturned and he was lost then.

But once family members went back into the water to search for the missing five-year-old, they found him, unconscious. One of the family performed CPR until emergency crews arrived, taking over as the boy was transported by Life Flight helicopter to the University of Texas Medical’s John Sealy Hospital. He was reported dead at the hospital.

Although there are signs describing rules for dike use, there are still no warning signs along the beach area regarding the danger of swimming. In October a set of twins -- along with their father who died in the attempted rescue -- drowned in the same area.

The drowning of a child is always a particularly tragic accident. The Doan Law Firm, led by personal injury attorney Jimmy Doan, can help.
