Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Stover, MO couple in Camden County after reports say they filed a false report of a drowning incident on the Missouri River at Franklin Island in Howard County.
The couple, Robert T. Gabauer, 44, and Michelle L. Miesner, 43, both of Stover, were arrested for felony attempted commission of fraudulent insurance act and filing a false police report, reports say.
Reports also say that on May 7, the pair called the Missouri State Highway Patrol to report Gabauer had drowned while fishing on the Missouri River. EMS and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, as well as some volunteer fire personnel, searched the waters for any sign of Gabauer’s body.
But after calling off the search in the evening and regrouping in the morning to continue the search, the police discovered apparent inconsistencies in Miesner’s story. The next evening, Gabauer was reportedly located in Camden County where both he and Miesner were taken into custody.
