A cruise ship carrying more than 100 tourists collided with a cargo ship in a Danube River channel near the capital of Slovakia, reports say.
No injuries were reported, but the German cargo ship, the Bavaria 52, carrying corn, was badly damaged in the collision early Wednesday south of Bratislava, with a massive effort to keep it from sinking.
The 160 passengers were mostly German; the cruise ship, a Maltese vessel named Viktoria, was only slightly damaged. The passengers were evacuated, but the captain was evidently confident the ship could reach the port in Bratislava.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated.
