An elderly woman with dementia died after wandering into a canal in Cape Coral and drowning, reports say. The body of Patricia Stiner, 78, was found in the canal by a kayaker
Evidently, Ms. Stiner walked away from her home while the two caretakers who watched her were between shifts, reports say. The woman, who liked to leave the house when possible, would usually simply wander the streets until the caregivers found her and returned her to her home. On this occasion, they were too late to find her.
How she got to the canal or how she ended up in the water are still being investigated. She had been dead approximately two hours when the kayaker discovered her body. The investigation is continuing, according to reports.
