Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred at 7900 South Freeway State Highway 288 about 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19th when a stranded motorist stalled and got out of his truck to see if he could fix his problem on the roadside.
The victim, whose name was not released, was driving a green Ford F-150 pickup truck that stalled out in the southbound lanes of the South Freeway exit ramp to the 610 South Loop – also known as South Interstate Highway 610. The victim got out of his truck, raised the hood, and stood in front of the vehicle. The driver of a white Hyundai Santa Fe then struck the rear of the Ford.
The male victim, 40, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other persons inside the Ford truck suffered minor injuries. The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
