Reports say another child died late last month due to injuries resulting from a fire in a Houston home day care center. Eighteen-month-old Elias Castillo was the fourth child to die from the fire that killed three last month.
Two other children remain in critical but stable condition. They were transferred to Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, which specializes in burn victim care. A third child was released from Houston's Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital late last month. The fire reportedly started as a result of a burner left on in the kitchen.
Reports say Tata went shopping at a nearby store while in charge of the children, returning as the blaze broke out. Authorities are still trying to determine how long she was gone and when she returned.
In-home childcare facilities are governed by state regulations that say operators are not to care for more than six children of preschool age. But reports say seven children were in the home at the time. They were all between the ages of 18 months and 3 years, reports say.
