U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued a man from drowning on a Monday morning last month, reports say.
In an attempt to avoid capture by agents after he had made illegal entry in the United States, the man began swimming back across the Rio Grande River where Border Patrol agents are not allowed to pursue him.
But he began to struggle and requested assistance about the midpoint of the river. US Border Patrol Agents from the McAllen Outpost were patrolling the river by boat and spotted him as he began the swim to Mexico, then realized that he was in trouble. They maintained a safe distance by boat and threw him a flotation device, which helped him stay afloat and make a safe return to Mexico, reports say.
