Two-year-old Cody Guest was moments away from drowning at Rokewood Swimming Lagoon when his friend Gracie Fuchshofer saw him flailing as if he were in trouble.
Gracie made her way to him and pushed the toddler, who was by then face down in the water and motionless, to the shore and called lifeguards. At the same time, Gracie's mother saw her daughter pushing the lifeless body and ran to the shore to pull the two-year-old out. Another bystander cleared his airways and the toddler regained consciousness.
The boy was reportedly in perfect condition since the accident, but both Gracie and Cody - as well as their parents - are more cautious when it comes to water and water safety now.
When tragedies such as this are averted, it's simple to relax and reflect. But what if things had been different? Having any assistance is often crucial for the victims - or the victims' families.
