A Houston man was charged last year in the deaths of five children in his care who drowned after the car they in which they were riding plunged into a rain-swollen culvert.
Chanton Jenkins, 33, was accused of driving drunk and using his cell phone when he lost control of his car, which was filled with seven passengers, reports say.
Five children, including three of Jenkins' kids, died in the crash. Jenkins, his brother and a 10-year-old girl escaped from the vehicle. Jenkins was facing five counts of intoxication manslaughter, and Houston Police reportedly said his blood tests showed him to be still legally drunk almost three hours after the car plunged into the water in April 2009.
