Recent studies now show a possible link between breast implant patients and lymphoma, reports say.
According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, a type of lymphoma called anaplastic large cell lymphoma has appeared on at least 60 women with breast implants. This rare cancer reportedly is more likely in silicone implants than those filled with saline.
Silicone breast implants had been off the market since 1992 due to concerns they could cause health problems. But the implants were allowed back on the market in 2006. But now there may be renewed calls for permanent bans from the ALCL which has been reported among women with breast implants, reports say.
Some believe the silicone leaks into body and bloodstream. But the FDA believes breast implant occurs in the scar tissue that surrounds the implant, and they recommend that health care professionals pay close attention to breast implants and contact their doctor if they notice any changes.
