In a massive Salmonella outbreak ultimately linked to the Peanut Corporation of America, several victims, or families of victims, want the Justice Department to file criminal charges against PCA, reports say. The Salmonella outbreak sickened thousands in the United States and Canada, causing a number of deaths, reports say.
PCA reportedly furnished peanuts that went into some 3,500 products. Those products in turn made some 22,500 people sick and nine people dead from Salmonella infection, reports say.
When US FDA inspectors investigated the plant in January, they found evidence of mold, cockroaches, and Salmonella Bacteria, say reports. Stewart Parnell was the CEO of PCA during the massive infection, but he has reportedly never been charged with a crime, despite saying in testimony that he was aware that the Salmonella Bacteria was detected at the Georgia plant, and didn't order the halt to shipping.
Most people suffering from Salmonella recover, but in older or very young patients, the infection may spread to the blood stream and can cause death.Food poisoning, whether during a accidental or through negligence, cause more than just the obvious hardships.
