Cindy Becker-Watkins, 51, of Auburn, CA, was pronounced dead early this month after being pulled from the water at Portuguese Beach, a sandy stretch of coastline north of Bodega Bay, CA.
Becker-Watkins went into the surf after a dog at about 8 a.m. in the morning, but was quickly overcome by the icy cold water, ultimately disappearing from view before being washed back to the shore. She was pulled out by her husband and a State Park Ranger and emergency personnel arrived at the scene in an attempt to revive her. She was pronounced dead at 8:43 a.m., reports say.
Becker-Watkins was on a weekend retreat with her husband, Paul Becker, and walking with their two pugs on the beach when the tragedy occurred. Becker-Watkins was a certified nursing assistant and the mother of three adult children.
