Richard Steinecke II, 21, of New Caney, who was injured last Friday morning by steel beams which had collapsed in a high school auditorium under construction has died, reports say.
The worker was evidently killed as a result of both the fall from about 50 feet and from being crushed by the steel beams that fell on him.
Emergency crews had been called to the scene of the high school where new construction had begun on an auditorium. Steinecke was tethered to one beam for safety. When that beam was pulled from its place, he was pulled off with it. He was then trapped under the debris, reports say.
Although a helicopter flew Steinecke to the hospital in Galveston, he died Saturday morning as a result of his injuries. The other two workers, 26-year-old Cody Key, of Conroe, and 44-year-old Escolastico Mendez, of Houston, were also transported for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The exact cause of the accident is still unknown.
