The parents of a child who drowned in an Indio, CA pool could face criminal charges, reports say.
Although neither the family nor the deceased child have been identified by police yet, reports say charges are probably forthcoming, with child endangerment or child neglect charges most likely.
The incident occurred when a young girl was pulled from a swimming pool at about 5:50 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon during a family gathering at her home.
The case will be based on the results of an ongoing investigation, reports say. It was unclear whether both parents were to be possibly charged – or if both were even at the scene at the time of the tragedy.
It was also unclear whether the pool was gated, if other adults were outside when the girl slipped into the pool, or even how much time passed before she was pulled from the water. What is known is that the 2-year-old was out of the pool when EMS arrived and performed CPR. But she was in full cardiac arrest when paramedics took her to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, and she died at the hospital shortly later, reports say.
