Fatality Accident on Houston’s East Loop

|

Two motorists were killed mind-March as they tried to avoid an accident and stuck a bridge abutment on Houston’s East Loop South.

The accident occurred when tan Chrysler Sebring and a brown Chevrolet Astro van were traveling north on the 610 East Loop on the Ship Channel Bridge. According to witnesses, the driver of the Sebring made an unsafe lane change and struck the Astro van. The driver of the Astro van took evasive action and struck the outside concrete wall of the bridge.

Upon impact, the two victims in the van were ejected over the edge of the bridge and landed on the ground below. Four other persons in the van were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in fair condition. The driver and a passenger of the Sebring fled on foot.

The victims were a 34-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The investigation is continuing, and anyone with any information on the driver and passenger is urged to contact the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division at 713-247-4072.
