Knee Components May Be Defective

|

Several patients have filed lawsuits alleging injuries as a result of defective Zimmer NexGen LPS High-Flex Knee Replacements, reports say, claiming complications caused by the products, forcing them to undergo revision surgeries to correct problems.

The Zimmer NexGen LPS components were designed to be more flexible in everyday motion of the knee, but they also require that more bone be removed to make room for the flexible devices. But patients are reportedly saying that the devices don’t work as promoted. A 2007 UK study reportedly said that up to 38-percent of patients experienced a loosening of the components within two years, and many had to undergo corrective surgery to fix the problems.

The Zimmer NexGen LPS knee components were reportedly recalled in September because some of them were found to have inconsistent design measurements, reports say. The three Zimmer NexGen LPS knee replacement lawsuits were filed in Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota.
