Tainted Triad Wipes Used at Veterans Hospitals

|

Reports say that possibly 25-percent of Veterans Health Administration medical centers and its outpatient mail order pharmacy may have used defective alcohol prep pads – this despite a large and reasonably well-publicized U.S. recall of the products.

The swabs, which were reportedly manufactured by Triad Group, issued several large-scale recalls for tainted alcohol swabs, alcohol swabsticks, prep pads, and other products sold under various brand names due to concerns for potential contamination with bacteria. The worries involve two specific bacteria, Bacillus Cereus and Elizabethkingia Meningoseptica, bacteria evidently associated with flesh eating bacteria disease..

According to reports, the original recall has been enlarged, but it still took the VA three months after the first recall to advise patients about the problem. Several patients have been involved, and the U.S. Congress is now involved in the inquiry.

Families of veterans expect a certain level of care as they protect the country. And those in service to the country need to know their rights are being protected.
