On August 21, a pipeline explosion occurred when a dredge struck a live pipeline containing propane. The strike immediately caused an explosion which injured six and leave four still missing. It is still unclear what caused the Port Lavaca-based team to strike the pipeline. The team of nineteen were working for a private port client at the time.
Five of the victims are currently being treated for extensive burn injuries at the San Antonio's Brooke Army Medical Center. The Coast Guard rescue operations are still underway for the four missing crew members.
