Popular YouTuber Corey La Barrie was out and about in Los Angeles celebrating his 25th birthday earlier in May. Joining him on his celebratory foray was Ink Master star Daniel Silva. The pair were motoring in the Valley Village neighborhood of Los Angeles, with Silva behind the wheel of a McLaren 600LT sportscar.
According to witnesses, the McLaren was seen racing down through the neighborhood at a high rate or speed, obviously in excess of posted limits, at about 9:30 in the evening. According to law enforcement, Silva lost control of the vehicle, the car speeding off the road and into a stop sign and then a tree. La Barrie was transported to an area hospital where he died.
At the time of the accident, Silva got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. He was foiled in that effort by bystanders who quickly were at the wrecked car to provide aid and assistance. The bystanders held Silva at the scene until law enforcement and EMTs arrived. Silva was also transported to the hospital, having sustained injuries in the crash. He was admitted into the medical center beyond being treated in the emergency department.
La Barrie has been a You Tube fixture, with over 300,000 subscribers on his channel. He had posted a video about his planned birthday celebration with Silva previously, ending with a note that he and Silva “might get a little drunk.”
Silva was a contestant on season 10 of the reality show Ink Master, a program that focused on tattoo artists (of which Silva is one). Silva himself has a You Tube following for about 300,000 subscribers as well as 1.1 million followers on Instagram.
Investigation is underway in regard to the fatal accident. Nevertheless, this much is known. Law enforcement officials have advised that Silva was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal crash. Silva has been charged with murder, according to law enforcement officials. He evidently was placed under arrest while being treated at the hospital. In reviewing his normally very active Instagram account, there has been nothing new posted since about 24 hours prior to the accident. Silva evidently remains in police custody at this time due to the nature of the charge.
According to the family of the deceased La Barrie, they have retained legal counsel, evidently to pursue a wrongful death cases against Silva for the injuries and losses they sustained because of the death of the You Tuber. They family did release a statement through La Barrie’s brother than in part included:
“Corey passed away last night with his drunk friend driving. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I don’t know how I’m supposed to do this without you. I miss you so much already. This isn’t fair. Thank you for always being the best brother I could ask for. I love you so (expletive deleted) much. Life’s never going to be the same without you.”
