Catastrophic Tour Bus Accident Injures 57 People

|

A catastrophic tour bus accident occurred in central New York, sending all 57 people onboard the vehicle to hospitals, according to the state police. The New York tour bus was headed to Niagara Falls when the vehicle ran off the road and rolled over.

The tour bus landed on its side in the grass alongside the roadway at about 12:45 p.m. The injurious accident occurred on a highway near Weedsport, a New York town located about 25 miles west of Syracuse.

All of the passengers, together with the driver, were injured in the tour bus wreck. Some of the people on the bus sustained only minor injuries. Others sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident. Several days after the accident two people remained in critical condition.

A few children were onboard the wrecked bus. Evidently one child was just a month old. There no specific information about the medical status of the children beyond the fact that they were transported to area hospitals.

One medical center that has received accident victims is Auburn Community Hospital. Auburn received 27 patients. The injured people taken to Auburn included the tour bus driver.

State police troopers have told the media and the public that they yet do not understand why and how the tour bus veered off the road in the fist instance. An investigation is underway into the cause of the accident. There is no indication as to when the investigation into the wreck will wrap up.

Three other passengers were transported Upstate University Hospital, which is located in Syracuse in serious condition. Upstate is a top-level trauma center. The medical center is designed to provide care to seriously injured patients. A total of 25 patients were transported to Upstate. Information on all of the patients at that medical center is not available to the media or the public.

There is no information yet available on what company owns the vehicle involved in the New York tour bus accident. The bus may have been chartered for the trip to Niagara Falls. In the alternative, the vehicle may have been on some type of regular or recurring trip to the popular tourist destination on the New York and Canadian border.

The tour bus had left Poughkeepsie, in New York’s Hudson Valley. The bus departed from Poughkeepsie at about 6:00 in the morning. As mentioned a moment ago, the bus was carrying people to Niagara Falls.

A westbound lane of traffic on the highway was closed for several hours as a result of the accident. This resulted in traffic being significantly backed up during that time period.
