University of Mississippi Frat Members Accused of Cyberstalking

A pledge who reported fraternity hazing at the University of Mississippi Pi Kappa Alpha chapter now claims members of that Greek organization have been cyberstalking him. In fact, the fraternity cyberstalking evidently has been so severe that members of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter have been arrested and charged with crimes. These arrests are only the latest University of Mississippi fraternity hazing incidents that have come to light.

Seven University of Mississippi Pi Kappa Alpha Members Arrested

In regard to the latest University of Mississippi fraternity hazing incident, which involves the stalking of a former pledge, seven chapter members have been arrested. Generally speaking, these fraternity brothers are accused of using social media to harass the former pledge. The harassment is in retaliation for his reporting his previous hazing victimization.

The judge in the case involving the seven brothers set bail for each of the young men at $5,000 each. They have been released from custody as of this time.

The fraternity brothers have not been formally charged with specific crimes as of yet, The allegations being made about them will be brought before a grand just after the first of the year. A formal arraignment is already scheduled for February 28, 2022, which is the court proceeding at which the fraternity hazing brothers will be advised of their charges.

University of Mississippi Releases Statement Regarding Fraternity Hazing

The University of Mississippi has released a statement in regard to the initial fraternity hazing allegations made against Pi Kappa Alpha as well as about the latest stalking and harassment situation. A spokesperson for the university stated, in part:

As evidenced by the suspension of all operations of the Gamma Iota chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha of the University of Mississippi effective until May 1, 2025, hazing and related behavior, including cyberstalking, that put student health and safety at risk are contrary to the University of Mississippi Creed and will not be tolerated.

Original Fraternity Hazing Incident at University of Mississippi is at the Heart of Stalking

The original fraternity hazing incident was reported by a 20-year-old student who was pledging Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Mississippi. According to University of Mississippi campus police:

During an Oct. 11, 2020, hazing ritual, pledges were blindfolded with their neckties and made to sit in a hallway. Active members then yelled, screamed, threw liquids and things on the pledges, and made them squat against the wall while reciting phrases.

One fraternity member grabbed a bottle of bleach or surface cleaner and started spraying it on a few pledges. During this time, one of the pledges threw up from inhaling some of the substances in his mouth, and another one had to go to the hospital because the bleach got into his eyes.

Sanctions Against Pi Kappa Alpha for University of Mississippi Fraternity Hazing

The University of Mississippi has taken action in response to the initial fraternity hazing incident. These actions include:

  • Suspension of one of the fraternity members who the police have charged with aggravated assault.
  • The 158-member chapter was sanctioned and its members had to sign an anti-hazing agreement and receive anti-hazing education.
  • The fraternity ultimately was suspended from campus until 2025 in November because of another hazing incident was reported, which broke the agreement.
