A fatal Florida industrial accident occurred Friday at the CEMEX Brooksville South Cement Plant and Brooksville Quarry, located in the greater Tampa metropolitan area. According to preliminary reports from the scene, the worker – who has not yet been identified – was working in a pit at the quarry. Heavy machinery was in use at the pit while the worker was present in the pit.
For reasons yet to be explained, the worker is described has having become “entangled” in the machinery. The Hernando County Sheriff specifically advises:
For unknown reasons, the victim became entangled within the equipment. Mine workers worked diligently to separate the victim form the equipment.
CEMEX employees administered first aid in advance of emergency medical personnel arriving at the scene of the deadly Florida industrial accident. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene. He has only been described as an adult male.
Investigation Underway Into Florida Industrial Accident
Although little is yet known about the Florida industrial accident, specifically about the cause of the tragic death, a comprehensive investigation is now underway. Three agencies currently are heading up the investigation:
- Hernando County Medical Examiner
- Hernando County Sheriff
- Mine Safety Health Administration
No timeframe has been provided regarding the investigation. No additional information has been provided from any of the investigatory agencies as of this juncture in time.
