Death came to Margaritaville on Lake Conroe, Texas over the past weekend. One man lost his live, having been electrocuted. Another was sent to the hospital with what are described as nonlife threatening injuries as a result of what officials are calling an “industrial accident” involving a pair of workers at the popular Texas resort.
Contract Workers Undertaking Underground Electrical Job
The fatal electrocution accident occurred while the two men were involved in some type of work involving some sort of underground electrical apparatus. The workers were nest to a manhole at the Margaritaville resort when the deadly incident occurred. The man who lost is life was leaning into the manhole. The man who suffered nonlife threatening injuries was situated behind the man who was partially into the manhole at the time of the deadly incident.
The man with survivable injuries was transported to an area hospital. The identities of neither man has been released to the media nor to the public, pending notification of family members of the victims.
Sound Like an Explosion Heard Across Much of Resort
People at Margaritaville were first alerted to a problem at the Lake Conroe resort when they heard what sounded like an explosion. Something yet to be identified caused electricity flowing in, at, or around the manhole location to ignite.
The electrical flow was responsible for the death of the man leaning into the manhole. The resulting fire is what was the primary cause of injuries to the second individual working at the scene.
Margaritaville Issues Statement Regarding Lake Conroe Electrocution and Fire Accident
Management of the Lake Conroe Margaritaville Resort issued a statement following the death of the contract worker and the injury of the other individual:
The team at Margaritaville Lake Resort, Lake Conroe at Houston extends its thoughts and prayers to those involved in today’s unfortunate accident.
Shortly after 3 p.m., two contractors of our energy provider were performing electrical work on property when an incident occurred.
Police, fire, and emergency medical teams immediately responded to the scene. Out of respect for the individuals and their families, any questions should be referred to the local authorities.
As a result of the incident, there is currently no power at the resort.
Guests Evacuated from Margaritaville Resort
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, all guests at Lake Conroe Margaritaville were evacuated. Safety issues regarding the resort as a whole followed the deadly incident that took one life and injured another person. Officials indicated that ensuring that the resort is wholly safe may take a couple of days.
Cause of Electrocution and Fire Accident Unknown
An investigation involving a number of different agencies is now underway to ascertain how and why the Lake Conroe Margaritaville accident occurred. There has been no indication as to how long the investigation will continue or when additional information may be released regarding what happened at the Houston are resort.
Officials did advise that the resort lost power for a period of over 24 hours during the week prior to the deadly accident. With that said, officials have not yet confirmed that the pair of workers involved in the fatal accident at Margaritaville were in the scene in response to the power outage from the prior week.
