Worker Trapped in Cement Truck Bucket in Critical Condition

|

In what is being described as a “freak” construction accident, a worker was trapped in a cement truck bucket on Wednesday, June 16, 2016. The worker suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The construction accident occurred in Lakewood Township, New Jersey.

The worker suffered severe injuries to his legs and feet. As of the day following the accident, not specific information is yet available as to how the unusual incident occurred in the first instance. An investigation has started and is ongoing.

The name of the injured worker has not been released to the media or public. No additional information has been released about the status of the worker’s condition as of this time. The reality is that based on what is known about the nature of the man’s injuries, he may be faced with long-term or even permanent disabilities.

Equipment related incidents like that involving the worker in New Jersey are among the most commonplace types of construction accidents in the United States. Other of the more frequently occurring construction site accidents in the country include:

  • Explosions

Most Common Types of Construction Accident Injuries

Admittedly, the construction accident involving the New Jersey worker is unusual, the types of injuries the man sustained in and of themselves are not atypical of what can happen at a building site. The most commonplace types of construction accident injuries in the United States, according to Industrial Safety and Hygiene News, include:

  • Head Injuries
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Cuts

Justice and Compensation in a Construction Accident Injury Case

Compensation awarded in a construction accident case depends on the facts and circumstances of the incident itself together with the nature and extent of injuries sustained by a victim of some other party’s negligence. With that said, common examples of compensation in a construction accident injury case include:

  • Medical Bills and Expenses
  • Pain and Suffering
  • Lost Wages
  • Emotional and Psychological Distress
  • Physical Disability
  • Physical Disfigurement

An injured construction worker is entitled to compensation for existing injuries, damages, and losses. In addition, a worker injured in a construction accident may be entitled to compensation for ongoing losses that are foreseeable in the future.

In some cases when the causes of a worker’s injuries are particularly egregious or the result of especially reckless conduct, a victim may be entitled to what are known as punitive damages or exemplary damages. These represent additional compensation to an injured worker in specific types of situations.

The best way to protect your own legal rights and interests following a construction accident is to promptly obtain experienced legal representation. Going it alone and without an attorney is a risky venture.
