A California Amazon truck accident killed two and injured two others in Jurupa Valley. Officers from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene of an accident at Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street in Jurupa Valley on Saturday evening. While working the accident, an Amazon delivery truck slammed into a parked but empty sheriff’s department patrol vehicle.
The impact between the Amazon truck and the patrol car caused the cruiser to jettison into a crowd of people standing at the scene of the initial accident. Two of the people at the gathering of individuals at the scene were the drivers of the pair of vehicles involved in the initial accident. These two people were killed in the subsequent Amazon truck accident. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other individuals sustained major injuries as a result of the Amazon truck accident. They were transported to the hospital where they were listed in critical condition. These two other victims of the Amazon truck accident are expected to survive. The names of people injured and killed in the collision have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Amazon truck was also taken to an area medical center. He complained of pain following the accident but was mobile. No additional information has been released regarding any injuries that the Amazon truck driver may have sustained.
California Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of the Amazon truck accident that followed the initial roadway collision. California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and has released little information about that endeavor to date. What is known is that investigators from the highway patrol do not suspect that the Amazon truck driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the deadly accident.
Weather conditions at the time of the accident are reported to have been clear. The sun had set by the time of the Amazon truck accident. Impaired driver, weather, and darkness tend to be causes or factors contributing to accidents of this nature.
Other ommon causes of these types of accidents include:
- Distracted driver
- Fatigued driver
- Driver motoring at an excess of what is appropriate in a reduced speed zone
- Mechanical failure
Officials have not provided a timeline for the investigation. There has been no comment as of this time from Amazon regarding the deadly crash involving one of the company’s vehicles.
Not all trucks used in delivering goods to Amazon customers are owned by the company. In this case, an Amazon-owned truck was involved in the accident. In many instances, contract trucks and delivery drivers are used. The use of contract trucks and workers complicates the issue of who should be held responsible for injuries and deaths arising from accidents involving Amazon shipments.
Amazon trucks have become quite ubiquitous in recent times, particularly with more and more people ordering everything from food to other staples from the company because of the coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, in part as a result of growing number of this company’s vehicle’s vehicles on the streets of the United States, Amazon truck accidents are becoming more commonplace.
