Astroworld Concert Injury Lawyer Establishes Hotline at (832) 835-0000
A horrific deadly stampede resulted in the deaths of concertgoers and injuries to hundreds of other fans at the Astroworld Festival in Houston on Friday night. As of Saturday morning, the crowd surge at the Travis Scott Astroworld Fest resulted in:
- At least eight deaths at the Astroworld Festival
- Over 300 injuries during the Travis Scott set at the Astroworld Fest
- 23 concertgoers rushed to area hospitals
- 11 concert attendees currently listed in critical condition, including a 10-year-old boy
Houston Fire Chief Holds Press Conference about Mass Casualty Event
The Houston Fire Department was among the first responders called to the scene of the concert calamity. Unfortunately, and as the Chief acknowledges, by the time emergency personnel were on the scene, “the damage had been done.”
Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña went on to explain the deadly stampede at the Astroworld Festival:
(The situation at Astroworld Fest was) total chaos. The crowd for whatever reason began to push and surge towards the front of the stage, which caused the people in the front to be compressed. They were unable to escape that situation.
Fans Plead for Performers to Stop Concert
As people were being killed and critically injured in the stampede, fans on the ground at the event screamed and pleaded with the artists on stage to stop their performances. They did not stop performing until emergency personnel arrived and began transporting deceased and injured concertgoers from NGR Park. However, the stop in the performance initially was only a break. Those on stage resumed performing for a period of time despite the deadly stampede.
Ultimately, through the demands of emergency personnel and a decision by concert organizers, the Friday night performances were brought to a complete end. The remainder of the Astroworld Festival slated for Saturday has been cancelled.
A Look at the Astroworld Festival
Astroworld Festival has become a highly popular concert happening and a social media favorite, particularly on Instagram. The theme of this year’s two-day festival is Open Your Eyes to a Whole New Universe. The festival quickly sold out when tickets became available.
The brainchild of Travis Scott, 2021 marked the third year of Astroworld Festival. The first concert featured hip-hop artists only but by 2021, the lineup included hip-hop, hard rock, and reggae. Over 100,000 purchased tickets to the weekend event.
The organizers of Astroworld Festival spend a considerable amount of time discussing “fan safety.” However, a preliminary review of fan safety materials and protocols, the focus seems to be primarily on coronavirus. While not minimizing COVID-19, mass gatherings such as Astroworld Festival, involve a myriad of other types of safety risks as concertgoers grimly realized Friday night.
Concert headliner Travis Scott tweeted a statement Saturday morning:
I am absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.
Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into this tragic loss of life.
I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to the Houston PD, Fire Department and NGR Park for their immediate response and support.
Love You All.
