Danish Baig. John Hilgert. Franco Patino. Brianna Rodriguez. In the aftermath of a mass casualty event like the Astroworld Festival, the sheer number of deceased and injured victims can prove overwhelming. Danish Baig
One of the four victims who lost their lives at the Astroworld Festival has been identified as Danish Baig. At the time of his tragic death, Danish was 27. Witnesses from the concert explain that Danish gave up his life trying to save a family member when the stampede broke out at the concert site. Danish’s brother Basil wrote of the tragedy on his own Facebook page:
My brother tried to save my sister-in-law from these horrendous acts that were being done to her in the process he lost his life. I am lost of words and in true trauma from this event. I was there and I wasn't able to save my brother. People were hitting pushing and shoving.
John Hilgert
John Hilgert was a ninth grade student at Memorial High School in Harris County. Green ribbons are to be found adorning Memorial High in honor of John. In addition, the school is making counselors available to fellow students at the school to assist in their grief in the aftermath of this truly untimely death. MHS Principal Lisa Weir issued a statement about the tragic loss of this young man:
Our hearts go out to the student's family and to his friends and our staff at Memorial. This is a terrible loss, and the entire MHS family is grieving today.
Franco Patino
The second person identified as losing his life at the Astroworld Festival is Franco Patino. 21-year-old Franco Patino was a student at the University of Dayton in Ohio. According to university officials, who were the first to announce tragic death of this promising young man, Franco was majoring in mechanical engineering technology. Although studying in Ohio, like John Hilgert, Franco Patino is a Harris County resident.
Brianna Rodriguez
The third young person identified as a fatal victim of the Astroworld Festival is Brianna Rodriguez. Brianna was 16 years old. She was a student attending Heights High School in Harris County. Brianna’s aunt has spoken briefly about this bright, enthusiastic young woman. She said that Brianna Rodriguez had a true passion for dancing.
Four other young people lost their lives at the Astroworld Festival catastrophe. There is speculation that their names will be released at some point on Sunday.
13 victims of the horrific tragedy at NRG Park remain hospitalized, some of them still in critical condition. Five of the 13 hospitalized victims are under the age of 18.
