The Doan Law Firm has represented the victims of industrial explosions from across the United States for years. Our firm has 40 offices located from coast to coast in the United States. “What I’ve learned in representing women and men injured in industrial accidents is that these terribly tragic events happen everywhere,” explained Jimmy Doan, the President of The Doan Law Firm. “The recent explosion at a Pueblo, Colorado concrete tie plant underscores the sad reality that no one who works in factory or plant is free from the prospect of being injures in the workplace.”
About the Colorado Rocla Plant
The Rocla plant in Pueblo, Colorado, manufactures concrete rail ties. In fact, Rocla is the leading manufacturer of pre-stressed concrete rail ties in the United States. In addition to rail ties, Rocla manufactures an array of other concrete products that include:
- Pipes
- Stormwater culverts
- Headwalls
- And other products
Rocla Colorado Plant Explosion
An investigation is underway into the cause of the Rocla Colorado plant explosion. There is some basic information known at this time as to what caused the Rocla Colorado plant explosion accident:
- A plant worker was using welding equipment at the time of the explosion
- The worker was using the welding equipment near an oil drum that was nearly empty
- The process of using the welding equipment resulted in sparks
- The sparks ignited the oil that remained in the nearby drum
- The ignition of the oil resulted in the explosion
One worker was airlifted to the hospital following the explosion. While specifics regarding the man’s condition are not publicly available at the moment. A spokesperson for the Pueblo Fire Department that responded to the scene of the explosion explained that the injured worker was the person “most directly involved with the start of the incident.” This clearly seems to indicate that the injured worker is the same person who was using the welding equipment that appears to be associated with the Colorado industrial explosion.
The spokesperson for the Pueblo Fire Department made additional remarks in front of the Rocla plant:
“About 10:35 in the morning, we received a call of an explosion in this facility. This is a facility that manufactures concrete railroad ties. It happened in the manufacturing machining area of the facility that was a covered indoor-outdoor area and lots of other items have caught fire.”
Evidently there were 39 workers in total at the plant on the morning of the explosion. All of the workers have been accounted for as of this time.
The fire did take some time to extinguish, although it was out the same day of the explosion itself. The extent of damage to the plant is not yet known. The building is about 12,000 square feet in size.
A dark smoke plume did rise above the plant following the blast. There was no air quality warning issued in regard to the smoke plume. There appears to have been no hazard to the public at large following the investigation.
